ChatGPT’s conversations have been accessed through a simple Google search, exposing over 100,000 AI chats from various users. OpenAI is working to de-index these chats, but some remain accessible on the Wayback Machine, raising concerns about user privacy.
According to Digital Digging, several chatGPT conversations can still be accessed through Archive.org’s Wayback Machine, despite OpenAI’s efforts to remove them from Google Search. The firm’s Director, Mark Graham, stated that no individual has requested removal of these chats from the Wayback Machine.
The Wayback Machine saves every publicly accessible page on the internet with time-stamped snapshots. Since there hasn’t been a request to take down the chatGPT conversations, individuals can still access them through Archive.org. Some of the accessed chats are interesting and wild, but users’ privacy is still compromised.
This phenomenon highlights the need for caution when interacting with AI models, as their chats can be used in legal matters. The exposure of these conversations on Google Search suggests that this issue may not be isolated to mainstream models.
