Lollapalooza continued into its third day despite perfect weather, with showstopping performances that left crowds in awe. Chance the Rapper kicked off the afternoon on Perry’s stage with a surprise 15-minute set, starting with his 2016 album track “No Problem.” The Chicago native performed new music from his upcoming album “Star Line,” which is set to drop August 15.
Grammy-winning rapper Doechii also brought the house down during her evening set on the T-Mobile stage. She commanded the audience through a high-energy performance, featuring hits like “Anxiety” and “Nosebleeds.” The crowd went wild as she rapped “Boiled Peanuts,” “Nissan Altima,” and “Denial is a River.”
The Tampa native also announced that she’ll be headlining her first tour. A countdown clock on her website indicates that more details will drop Monday at 9 a.m.
In another highlight, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra made history by becoming the first teen ensemble to perform on Lolla’s main stage. The young musicians played classical ballads, pop medleys, and “Star Wars” songs, drawing a unique mix of family members, orchestra alumni, and teenagers to the crowd.
The performance was led by Music Director Allen Tinkham, who brought out his own emotions as he watched his son play on stage. Ujjaini Shah said it was an “amazing” experience that showcased her son’s hard work over 12 years of playing violin.
Other notable performances included TWICE, making history as the first K-pop girl group to headline the festival, and Australian alternative dance trio Rüfüs Du Sol. English actress Naomi Scott also made a debut performance in the United States by performing at The Grove stage.
The three-day festival concludes Sunday night in Grant Park, with fans eagerly anticipating more performances and surprises from the artists.
