Meta has introduced a new eligibility requirement for live broadcasts on Instagram, restricting public accounts with fewer than 1,000 followers from hosting live videos. The change aims to enhance the overall usage experience for creators and users alike.
According to Meta, the rule applies to both public and private accounts, although it initially only affects private accounts. This shift may also impact the popular feature of sharing live streams with up to three close friends, which was launched in 2024.
The update aims to provide a better user experience by removing the ability for users with less than 1,000 followers to host live broadcasts, as claimed by Meta’s notice when trying to start a livestream.
