Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke publicly for the first time since edge rusher Micah Parsons requested a trade out of Dallas.
Jones described his relationship with Parsons as good and stated that the player’s request is just part of negotiation. He had direct talks with Parsons instead of his agent, David Mulugheta, because he believes the agent can’t solve problems under contract.
The Cowboys pass rusher, a four-time Pro Bowler, has been seeking a new deal since March. Jones acknowledges that the market for top pass rushers is strong and that other teams have secured their players with long-term deals.
However, Jones expressed his willingness to reward Parsons financially. He said he paid top dollar for quarterback Dak Prescott’s extension last year and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s earlier this summer, and believes that Parsons will get a similar deal.
Jones reassured Cowboys fans not to worry about the situation, saying that negotiation is key to putting together the best team and that his priority is winning.
