Driver Dies While Attempting Record at Bonneville Salt Flats

A 60-year-old driver, Chris Raschke, has died after losing control of his vehicle while attempting to set a speed record at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats. Raschke was driving the “Speed Demon” during the Speed Week land-speed racing event, which began on Saturday and runs through Friday.

Raschke’s vehicle lost control about 2.5 miles into his run, and he was treated by medical professionals at the scene. Despite their efforts, Raschke died from his injuries. The incident is currently under investigation by the Southern California Timing Association, which organizes Speed Week.

The Bonneville Salt Flats have been a popular destination for speed record attempts for decades, with drivers reaching speeds of over 400 mph in recent years. Raschke had extensive experience in motorsports, having worked for over four decades and competed in various events, including the mini stock division.
