National Bone and Joint Day Campaign Promotes Lifelong Mobility

The Orthopaedics Department of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba has launched a public awareness campaign on National Bone and Joint Day to encourage citizens to prioritize musculoskeletal health. The event, observed annually on August 4, aims to raise awareness about the increasing burden of musculoskeletal disorders.

According to Dr Manik Sehgal, Head of the Orthopaedics Department, early intervention and preventive care are crucial for maintaining mobility. He advises investing in bone health through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and timely medical check-ups. A diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, low-impact exercise like walking or yoga, good posture, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can help prevent conditions such as osteoporosis and arthritis.

The campaign’s theme, “Strong bones, resilient joints — build the foundation for a lifetime of movement,” emphasizes the importance of adopting mindful habits today to avoid serious complications in the future. The department hopes that the awareness campaign will inspire individuals across all age groups to prioritize their bone and joint health and adopt a proactive approach toward well-being.
