Overwatch 2 has collaborated with Hasbro’s iconic Nerf brand for a brand new batch of cosmetics, marking the game’s first weapon skins-focused collaboration. This season’s collab offers seven characters in brand new Nerf-inspired blaster skins, as well as a major free component that may be the most appealing to players.
Video footage and interviews with Overwatch 2 team members revealed the extensive thought process behind creating these unique cosmetic items. Associate Director of Product Management Aimee Dennett explained that the team aimed to try out a full weapon skin collaboration, which is relatively new in the game. The Nerf brand was chosen for its iconic toy blasters that “fit our Overwatch Heroes’ weapons really well.”
Soldier: 76 will wield the N Series Pinpoint Blaster, while Baptiste will use the Loadout Commander. Tracer’s Gelfire Pro has been designed to resemble a real-life Nerf darts system. Other heroes, like Mei and Genji, have also received new blasters tailored to their characters.
However, only one character, Cassidy, will receive a full skin that transforms his pistol into the Nerf Maverick and grenade into the Vortex Football. The new skin features two Nerf products, an updated belt buckle, and a robotic arm upgrade.
A major free component in this collab is the “Nerf or Nothin'” game mode. Players will battle to achieve 20 eliminations while equipped with their brand new blaster skins, but can earn Tracer’s Gelfire Pro skin for free by competing in this limited-time event.
According to Dennett, the team aimed to offer a range of cosmetics that cater to various player interests. The addition of Nerf right after other themed collaborations was done with this in mind.
The Overwatch 2 x Nerf collab will kick off on August 5th and run until August 18th.
