OpenAI is expanding its digital editing space, Canvas, to all ChatGPT users and adding new features, including a livestream announcement today, as part of its “12 Days of OpenAI” holiday-themed announcements.
Canvas, announced in October, was initially only available to paying subscribers. It converts ChatGPT’s traditional interface into a left-hand sidebar with a new space for content. Canvas can suggest text and code, implement changes automatically, and even make suggestions for fixes.
The updated feature allows users to paste Python code directly into ChatGPT, which may open Canvas automatically. Canvas also enables developers to create and preview graphics from code alone and find bugs in the code.
For custom GPTs, Canvas is integrated by default, but existing users can add it as a feature through settings. OpenAI plans to continue improving Canvas with new features in the near term, solidifying its position as a key interface battleground for chat platforms.
