The preseason Coaches Poll top 25 college football rankings have been released, showcasing the teams’ expected performances in the upcoming season. The rankings are always subjective and based on limited information since teams haven’t played any games yet.
Among the overrated teams, Michigan ranks No. 14 despite two signature wins that give them better momentum to build upon. However, concerns surround their passing offense and skill players around quarterback Bryce Underwood. Clemson, ranked No. 6, is undervalued given their continuity at quarterback position and defensive talent.
On the other hand, South Carolina’s high ranking (No. 13) may be due to LaNorris Sellers’ exceptional quarterback play and Dylan Stewart’s defensive prowess. Nevertheless, concerns about their wide receiver corps and defense may lead to a regression in 2025. Louisville is another team that could cause trouble with its revamped offense and new secondary.
The underperforming teams include Tennessee (No. 18) due to concerns over the quarterback situation and depth issues at wide receiver and on defense. Indiana’s low ranking (No. 19) may be attributed to Curt Cignetti’s surprise debut as a top-ranked team, despite the coach having a history of inconsistency.
Ohio State ranks No. 2 but faces questions about their coaching staff turnover and lack of experience at quarterback and running back positions.
