Miner Tragedy in Chile: Bodies Found After 3-Day Ordeal

Rescue teams in Chile have finally found and identified the bodies of all five miners trapped in a collapsed shaft for three days, according to officials. The last miner, Moises Pavez, was discovered on Sunday afternoon. The group was stuck deep within Chile’s El Teniente mine after a 4.2-magnitude earthquake that killed one person and injured nine others.

The cause of the collapse is still being investigated, with authorities questioning whether it was a natural earthquake or related to mining activity. A criminal investigation has also been launched to determine if safety standards were breached.

El Teniente, located in the Andes mountains, is the world’s largest underground copper mine. Operations have been halted in the affected area, and 3,000 people evacuated from the site. Chile’s government is offering support for the families of the victims, following a similar rescue operation in 2010 that made global headlines.
