Israel Approves Gradual Goods Entry for Gaza

Israel has approved a new mechanism allowing goods into the Gaza Strip in a controlled and gradual manner. The move comes as pressure on Israel over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza reaches new heights, with Hamas holding 50 hostages taken during an October attack.

The Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced that local merchants have been approved to sell basic food products, baby supplies, fruits, vegetables, and hygiene goods. Payments will be made via bank transfers, monitored by COGAT, before all goods undergo border inspection for entry.

Over 300 trucks carrying essential goods, including fuel, are waiting to be collected and distributed, with over 250 already sorted out by the UN and international organizations. Airlifts of aid have also been coordinated with several countries, including the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Germany, Canada, and Belgium.

This new development marks an escalation in Israel’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as it seeks to balance its security concerns with international pressure.
