Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs is expected to miss the rest of training camp after undergoing knee surgery, according to coach Matt LaFleur. The injury, which required surgical repair of a partial meniscus tear, could keep Hobbs out for four weeks.
LaFleur declined to provide a specific return date but expressed hope that Hobbs would be available for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Despite his limited practice time since July 31, Hobbs had shown promise during training camp, impressing LaFleur with his physicality and ability to make plays in coverage.
Hobbs’ injury has created an opportunity for backup cornerback Carrington Valentine to assume first-team reps on the perimeter. Valentine has made a strong start to camp, including an interception last week, and LaFleur praised his competitiveness and hard work.
The Packers have also signed veteran corner Corey Ballentine to provide depth at the position. LaFleur expressed excitement about Ballentine’s experience and knowledge of both defense and special teams.
As the team navigates Hobbs’ extended absence, Green Bay will look to its younger players to step up and fill the void. With Valentine poised to take on more responsibilities and Ballentine providing veteran guidance, the Packers are well-equipped to face the challenges ahead.
