EA has long touted its mission to recapture the “golden years” of Battlefields 3 and 4 with Battlefield 6. However, it seems that DICE’s lead multiplayer producer Jeremy Chubb has found inspiration in a different game – Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Chubb stated that Bad Company 2 is where you find excellence in the legacy of the series, citing its curated selection of modes, perfectly sized maps, and freeform destruction. The satisfaction of blowing apart buildings was particularly praised by Chubb, who mentioned that it delivered on a level of fidelity and intimacy that was missing from their last game.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Chubb explained how Bad Company 2’s gameplay identity was what the team wanted to recapture in Battlefield 6. The similarities between the two games were evident during a recent playthrough of Battlefield 6 on Liberation Peak, where structures could only take so much punishment before collapsing.
With the open beta set to begin this week for those who signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31, it seems that DICE is well on its way to recapturing the “golden years” of the series. Fans can now experience the gameplay improvements firsthand and decide whether or not they believe Bad Company 2’s excellence has been successfully passed down to Battlefield 6.
