Top 5 College Football Teams in Preseason Poll

The college football preseason top 25 poll has been released, with Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, and Notre Dame taking the top five spots. This is the first time in history that Texas will open at No. 1, with the Longhorns set to face off against the No. 2 Buckeyes on August 30th. The coaches’ poll has given significant weight to Ohio State’s strong team performance, with 20 first-place votes. Penn State and Georgia also secured high rankings, with 14 and three first-place votes respectively. Other top-ranked teams include Clemson, Alabama, Oregon, and Miami.

The SEC leads all conferences with nine ranked teams, including four in the top nine: Texas A&M, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. The Big Ten placed six teams in the poll, while the Big 12 has five representatives. Boise State is the only Group of 5 team to be ranked at the start of the season.

The AP will release its own preseason rankings on August 11th.
