California’s no-fault divorce laws may be the reason why former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron is able to walk away from his marriage without alimony or being labeled as an unfit parent.
Byron rose to fame after a kiss cam incident at a Coldplay concert, where he was caught getting cozy with the company’s HR representative. However, lawyers say that California’s divorce laws don’t consider infidelity when making custody and financial decisions.
According to family law attorney Richard Sullivan, “California is a no-fault divorce state. The court doesn’t care who cheated or why the marriage ended.” He added that unless community funds were used to support an affair, cheating has little legal consequence.
Custody decisions are based on the child’s well-being, not parental embarrassment. Sullivan stated that “bad judgment during a concert isn’t enough to label someone an unfit parent.” The focus is on providing structure and stability for the children.
Byron’s wife, Megan, recently changed her name and deleted her social media profile. Sources say she’s been relying on her sister and staying in their $2.4 million home in Maine.
