Trump Admin Ditches ‘5 Things’ Email Mandate for Federal Workers

The US government has officially ended a program requiring federal employees to send weekly summaries of their achievements in emails, as part of an effort to reduce the workforce. The policy was introduced by Elon Musk, then head of the Department of Government Efficiency, in February 2023. Musk said the “bar was very low” and that failure to respond would be considered a resignation. However, many agencies had already phased out the practice, indicating a growing rift between Musk and Trump. OPM Director Scott Kupor stated that the agency will no longer manage or utilize the system, citing existing tools for monitoring team progress. This move marks another sign of the strained relationship between Musk and Trump, who have been at odds for months over issues like the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
