Browns Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders to Start in Preseason Opener

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start in the team’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed earlier this week that Sanders would be the primary starter, citing a need for simplicity in the playbook so players can play fast.

Sanders, a 6-foot-1, 212-pound signal-caller from Colorado, was selected by the Browns in the fifth round of the NFL draft and remains fourth on the team’s depth chart. Despite some shoulder soreness earlier in training camp, Sanders has not been an issue for Stefanski.

In contrast, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young will start against the Browns, despite a notable change from last year’s preseason schedule. Young was initially set to sit out the first two preseason games but will now participate in one or two series against Cleveland.
