Reality TV star Gerry Turner, 73, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In an interview with People magazine, Turner shared his experience, saying the diagnosis was like “10 tons of concrete” dropped on him and left him in denial.
Turner, who gained fame as the lead of ABC’s reality dating show “The Golden Bachelor,” has been managing the disease through a hematology-oncology group. While the disease is incurable, it can be managed with treatments such as chemotherapy.
Turner, a retiree from Indiana, had previously spoken about finding love late in life and the optimism that comes with it. However, his diagnosis has led to a change in priorities, including spending more time with family.
The reality TV star also shared how he learned about his cancer diagnosis through an orthopedic surgeon’s advice after a shoulder injury three years ago. Despite the diagnosis, Turner remains positive, saying he wants to “pack as much fun as I possibly can into my life and enjoy every moment.”
