NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has stated that a rape allegation against rapper Jay-Z will not impact the league’s relationship with Roc Nation, the entertainment company behind some of the NFL’s most high-profile events, including the Super Bowl halftime show. The allegations, made by a woman who previously sued Sean “Diddy” Combs, now claim Jay-Z was present at an awards show party in 2000 and participated in the alleged assault.
Jay-Z has denied the allegations, calling them an “idiotic” and “heinous” attempt to extort him. The NFL and Roc Nation partnered in 2019 for events and social activism, with Goodell praising their work on social justice initiatives. Despite the controversy, the partnership is expected to continue, with Kendrick Lamar set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show next February.
Goodell emphasized that the allegations have not altered his opinion of Jay-Z as a partner, citing Roc Nation’s positive impact on the league’s events and social activism efforts. Beyonce, married to Jay-Z, will also perform during the halftime show for the Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game in December.
