Jussie Smollett Returns to Fox After High-Profile Scandal

After more than six years away, Jussie Smollett is returning to Fox with a new role on the network’s competition show Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. The actor and singer will be one of 18 celebrities competing in challenges inspired by military special forces training. This marks his first major appearance on the network since leaving Empire in 2019 due to an uproar over an allegedly staged attack.

Smollett was re-indicted in 2020 for filing a false police report, but his conviction was overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2024. The actor has maintained that he did not stage the crime and recently participated in a Netflix documentary, “The Truth About Jussie Smollett?” which is set to premiere on August 22.

This season’s contestants include Kody Brown from Sister Wives, Brittany Cartwright from The Valley, Randall Cobb from the NFL, Jessie James Decker from country music, and several others. Some contestants have familial relationships with each other, including married couples Eric and Jessie James Decker, Andrew East and Shawn Johnson East, and Teresa Giudice and her daughter Gia.

Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test is set to premiere on September 25 on Fox.
