Chevrolet Silverado EV Shatters Electric Range Record

General Motors has shattered a record for electric vehicle range with its 2026 Silverado EV, traveling an astonishing 1,059.2 miles on a single charge. The feat was achieved in a carefully controlled test, using parameters such as maintaining high speeds and reducing drag.

The test, which involved 40 GM engineers driving the vehicle over several days, aimed to demonstrate the potential of the battery pack. However, it’s worth noting that this result may not be representative of real-world conditions due to the testing parameters.

Automakers are limited in what they can advertise about their vehicles’ ranges outside of EPA test cycles conducted at specialized facilities. This is done to create a level playing field for comparison among automakers.

The Silverado EV’s record-breaking range exceeds its estimated 493 miles by more than double, making it an attractive option for customers concerned about electric vehicle range anxiety. Despite this impressive feat, the Silverado EV still sold fewer units in its first six months compared to its gasoline-powered predecessor.

General Motors continues to work on optimizing its electric vehicles, with optimizations allowing consumers to replicate at home. The company has sold 5,439 Silverado EVs so far, a significant increase from last year but short of expectations for the full range of models.
