The UFC has parted ways with heavyweight contender Martin Buday, citing the division is already thin enough, despite his solid 7-1 record in the Octagon. Buday recently completed his final fight under contract at UFC Abu Dhabi, where he earned a decision victory over BJJ champion Marcus Buchecha.
Buday’s departure was met with disappointment from fans, who praised his consistent performances and handpicked victories over notable opponents like Andrei Arlovski. However, Renato Moicano, a former title challenger himself, believes the UFC prioritizes entertainment over raw talent.
In an interview on The Show Me The Money Podcast, Moicano stated, “UFC’s not about being good… It’s about people tuning in to watch.” He emphasized that fans are drawn to charismatic fighters like Tony Ferguson, who despite a lengthy losing streak, remains popular with the audience. Moicano also highlighted that even talented fighters without name recognition struggle to gain traction.
Buday, 33 from Slovakia, was known for his eight-fight win streak prior to joining the UFC and has been praised for his determination to continue competing after being released by the promotion.
