H5N1 Avian Flu Virus Found in Air, Wastewater on Dairy Farms

Researchers have identified the H5N1 avian influenza virus in aerosol particles on dairy farms affected by bird flu in California. The study found large and small particles of the virus in the air on these farms. This discovery suggests that the virus can spread through airborne contamination. Seema Lakdawala, an associate professor of microbiology and immunology at Emory University School of Medicine, warns that the virus is widespread and requires increased biosafety measures to control its spread. The study has not yet undergone scientific peer review but highlights the need for enhanced biosecurity measures on dairy farms.
