Trump Administration Ends “5 Things” Email Requirement

The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has officially ended the “5 things” email requirement for federal employees, which was initiated by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency. The initiative aimed to cut down the size of the federal civilian workforce.

In February, federal workers received an email asking them to document five things they accomplished in the past week. However, multiple agencies told workers to ignore the request, and OPM advised agency heads to use their discretion when handling the directive.

The Defense Department was the first to formally end the requirement for civilians, and many other agencies have since followed suit or handled it internally. Musk left his role as a “special government employee” in May.
