A health department in Florida has reported 21 cases of Campylobacter and E. coli infections linked to raw milk consumption. The illnesses, which include six children under 10, have resulted in seven hospitalizations. The farm responsible for the contaminated milk is located in Northeast/Central Florida.
The state’s lax sanitation regulations are a concern due to the high number of cases. Raw milk can cause severe symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, as well as kidney failure in some cases. Federal health officials have warned against consuming raw milk due to the risk of bird flu transmission.
In Florida, raw milk is only sold for animal consumption, but containers are not always clearly labeled. This lack of regulation has led to the recent outbreak.
