Former Google executive Mo Gawdat claims that the idea of artificial intelligence creating new jobs is “100% crap.” He believes that AI will displace even the most high-level professionals, including CEOs and executives. Gawdat attributes this to artificial general intelligence (AGI) being better than humans at everything, including leadership.
However, billionaire Mark Cuban and Jensen Huang disagree, emphasizing the importance of learning AI skills and soft skills to gain a competitive edge in the workplace. Despite 41% of employers globally planning to downsize their workforce due to AI, 77% are instead upskilling their current workforce to work alongside AI.
While some view an AI-powered society as catastrophic, Gawdat suggests that it could also spark change by giving people more time for personal pursuits and a universal basic income (UBI) to ensure all citizens receive regular payments without work requirements. However, he warns of the potential dangers of AI being used for “power, greed, and ego,” highlighting the need for ethical regulations.
Gawdat emphasizes that AI is no longer science fiction but an undeniable reality revolutionizing people’s lives and workplaces.
