A Norwegian search operation is underway for missing US climate journalist Alec Luhn, who vanished while hiking on a glacier in southwestern Norway’s Folgefonna National Park. Luhn, 38, departed for his hike from the town of Odda on July 31 and failed to return home by Monday. His wife, Veronika Silchenko, alerted authorities after he missed his flight.
Rescue crews are using dogs and drones to search for Luhn, but poor weather is hindering their efforts. The Norwegian Red Cross has confirmed that Luhn, an experienced outdoorsman, was attempting to visit glaciers rapidly shrinking due to climate change as a climate journalist. He has previously reported for numerous outlets, including the BBC and National Geographic.
