A former chairman of the Duke of Sussex’s charity Sentebale has been accused of poor taste over a reference to his late mother. Sophie Chandauka vowed to honour the charity’s mission in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, after being cleared by the Charity Commission to stay on as chairman following a major dispute.
Chandauka was widely condemned by Prince Harry’s allies for her actions, who claimed she had taken control of the charity with “hostile intentions”. The Duke and other trustees resigned en masse in March over concerns about mismanagement, with Chandauka accusing them of bullying and harassment.
However, in a recent statement, Chandauka laid blame on the media campaign launched by those who left the charity, saying it had caused “incalculable damage” to Sentebale. The charity’s mission is to support children affected by HIV/Aids in Lesotho and Botswana.
