Arlington ISD Hosts 11th Annual Back to School Kickoff Event

Arlington resident Mikaila Smith found relief as she prepares for her children’s first day at Mary Moore Elementary, thanks to the district’s annual Back to School Kickoff event. The event, held at AT&T Stadium, offered free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, dental and vision screenings, and a resource fair for parents.

About 25,000 students attended the Aug. 2 event, with over 9,000 registering ahead of time for free backpacks. Superintendent Aaron Perales praised the district’s system, saying it has become more efficient over the years. The event is led by volunteer coordinators and features assistance from local schools and community organizations.

The Back to School Kickoff provides essential support to students and families as they head back to school. “It takes that extra weight off my shoulders,” said Makayla Sanders, whose daughter will attend Adams Elementary. Superintendents and organizers attribute the event’s success to community support and partnerships with local businesses and schools.

This year’s event demonstrated the power of collaboration between the district, schools, and community organizations. With resources like school meal sign-ups and dental screenings available, families can access essential services while their children begin the new school year. The Arlington Report will continue to cover news and events that impact our community.
