Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize by Cambodian PM

US President Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet, citing his role in halting a recent conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The nomination follows similar nods from Israel and Pakistan.

Hun Manet’s office released a statement praising Trump’s “extraordinary statesmanship” and commitment to resolving conflicts through diplomacy. Trump had brokered an unconditional ceasefire between the two countries last month, preventing over 40 deaths and forcing 300,000 people to flee.

The nomination is seen as a surprise move that could be influenced by Trump’s influence as the world’s biggest economy and most powerful military leader. The Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of nominations each year, with the names of nominees not revealed for 50 years.

Trump has been credited by White House officials with bringing an end to conflicts in various regions, including Thailand and Cambodia, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and Congo, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia. However, critics note that he has yet to fulfill his pledge on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in October, with Trump facing competition from other nominees.
