Boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya has reignited his long-standing feud with UFC leader Dana White over the issue of fighter pay. The health issues of Octagon veteran Ben Askren, who recently underwent a double lung transplant, have fueled De La Hoya’s criticism.
De La Hoya, who heads up Golden Boy Promotions, claimed that White’s upcoming TKO Boxing league will likely pay fighters only pennies on the dollar compared to the existing UFC model. He pointed to Askren’s situation as an example of how fighters are often left with significant medical bills despite their sacrifices.
In a recent statement, De La Hoya stated, “They don’t give a f— about boxing, or fighters, or putting their lives on the line.” White has since responded by revealing that he donated money to help fund Askren’s medical battle.
