A group of cybercriminals known as ShinyHunters breached Google’s Salesforce database, stealing basic business information from small and medium-sized businesses.
Google recently disclosed that a ShinyHunters hacking group broke into one of its own databases, storing contact information for small and medium-sized businesses. The hackers accessed the database for a short period before being blocked out. They mostly stole publicly available business data, which is largely considered basic.
ShinyHunters is notorious for targeting companies via social engineering tactics, often impersonating IT support desks to trick employees into resetting their passwords or installing malicious software. Once inside, they extract sensitive information and demand ransom payments months later to prevent its publication. This breach highlights the vulnerability of even major corporations to social engineering attacks.
