Porsche has unveiled its latest iteration of the iconic 911 GT3 R, which boasts significant upgrades to optimize suspension and aerodynamics. The new model is designed to deliver a more balanced handling experience, particularly for non-professional drivers, under various conditions.
According to Sebastian Golz, Project Manager Porsche 911 GT3 R, the primary focus was on optimization, with small changes aimed at making a big difference on a solid foundation. Driver feedback during the development phase confirmed their direction, and the team is confident that this evolution will enable customer teams to continue competing successfully globally.
Key enhancements include ventiducts on the front wheel arches, which significantly improve aerodynamics, coupled with optimized kinematics of the double wishbone front suspension. This improves braking behavior by reducing pitch sensitivity, providing more precise and predictable control.
At the rear, a swan-neck rear wing is equipped with a four-millimeter Gurney flap, generating additional downforce and enhancing aerodynamic balance adjustments. The underbody is fully enclosed and reinforced at the rear, with modified kinematics of the multi-link rear axle increasing anti-squat effect to improve dynamic load distribution.
Other updates include an electrohydraulic power steering system with enhanced fluid cooling, improved ceramic wheel bearings, and modified centring pins for drive shafts. These enhancements aim to provide more balanced handling across various tracks.
Porsche Motorsport also offers several optional packages as standard equipment, including a sensor package, endurance package, pit lane link package, and camera package. These kits offer practical advantages, such as registering refuelling detection sensors, which play a key role in series like IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The new 911 GT3 R underwent successful testing under competitive conditions, with its drivetrain remaining largely unchanged. Porsche Motorsport plans to offer around 60 update kits starting at €41,500 plus country-specific sales tax for existing vehicles based on the 911 generation 992.
