Disney Settles Wrongful Termination Lawsuit with Gina Carano

Former “Star Wars” actress Gina Carano, who was fired from her role in 2021 after making a controversial social media post, has settled a wrongful termination lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm. According to Carano’s statement, she reached an agreement that is considered the best outcome for all parties involved.

Carano, 43, was let go from her job as Cara Dune in “The Mandalorian” after posting a picture comparing conservative treatment to the Holocaust during World War II. She claimed she was fired due to her conservative views and alleged wrongful discrimination against her.

Disney initially stated that Carano’s comments were “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.” The actress sued for putative damages, claiming Disney had breached its duty of good faith in employing her. She also demanded the studio recast her role.

In April 2024, Disney filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, citing First Amendment protections against associating with Carano’s views. The actress responded on social media, saying Disney would fire her if she expressed disagreement with them.

Disney has since reversed its stance, stating that Carano was always well-respected by her colleagues and staff. The company looks forward to potentially working together with her in the near future.
