Royal Caribbean Waterslide Breaks Open on Icon of the Seas

A passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas has been injured when an acrylic waterslide on board broke open. The incident occurred as the guest passed through the slide, causing a sizable hole in its bottom section. According to Royal Caribbean, medical care was provided to the adult guest and they are now being treated for their injuries.

The water park, Category 6, which features six waterslides, is currently closed pending an investigation into the incident. Video footage captured by bystanders shows water pouring out of the damaged area on the colorful slide that passes over the deck.

Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship in operation, embarked on its maiden voyage in January 2024 and can carry nearly 10,000 passengers at full capacity. The ship is located on decks 16 and 17, where Category 6 is situated.
