Samsung has taken a jab at rival wearables, specifically calling out those from Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers, labeling them as “weak” due to their use of low-power chips. This criticism comes despite the fact that Huawei’s own wearables have received praise for their impressive features.
Unlike Huawei, Samsung claims its Galaxy Watch 8 Classic has a battery life of nearly two days, while Chinese smartwatches can often last over a week. However, the company revealed that it is focused on improving health features in its upcoming watches, rather than competing with rivals on battery life.
Samsung’s executive director, Choi Jong-min, stated that Chinese watches are weakened by their use of low-power chips, which compromise performance and negatively impact the user experience. In contrast, Samsung aims to enhance its own wearables with more advanced health features.
The comment may be seen as a veiled shot at Huawei’s Watch 5, which boasts cutting-edge technology such as X-Tap. It remains to be seen whether Samsung’s upcoming watches will excel in health features, potentially surpassing their Chinese rivals.
