Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan Stands Firm Amid Trump Resignation Calls

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has rejected calls for his resignation, despite President Donald Trump’s accusation of “deeply conflicted” ties to China. The president’s remarks on Tuesday escalated tensions between Tan and the company’s board over Intel’s future.

Tan, who previously worked as CEO at Cadence Design Systems, a firm that pleaded guilty to selling chip-design products to a Chinese military university, was also accused by Reuters of investing in hundreds of Chinese tech firms with ties to the People’s Liberation Army. Two Republican senators publicly questioned Tan’s suitability for the job and urged the board to consider new leadership.

However, in a letter sent to Intel employees and published on the company’s website, Tan pushed back on what he described as “misinformation” about his past and reiterated his commitment to the company and the US. He stated that he has always operated within the highest legal and ethical standards and is proud to lead a company central to US technology and manufacturing leadership.

Intel’s board remains supportive of Tan, with the CEO engaging in talks with the White House to clear the air. The stock price bounced back after falling 3% on Tuesday, closing 0.9% higher. Despite this, shares remain 23% below the post-spike high that followed Tan’s appointment as CEO.

Tan emphasized his love for the US and commitment to advancing national and economic security. He stated that Intel is in active talks with the Administration to address concerns and ensure they have the facts. The company is also making progress on transforming itself, innovating for customers, and executing with discipline.

In a statement, Tan expressed gratitude for his employees’ hard work and reiterated his pride in leading Intel as it looks to the future.
