The New England Patriots unveiled a 12-foot bronze statue of Tom Brady outside Gillette Stadium on Friday, fulfilling a promise made by owner Robert Kraft last year after the former quarterback’s induction into the team’s Hall of Fame. The statue is 17 feet tall and features unique details, including a granite base quarried in Vermont.
Brady described himself as “kind of old” during his speech, humorously referencing his 40-yard dash time from high school. He also expressed gratitude for the honor and joked about being described as “chiseled” by Boston sportswriters.
The unveiling was scheduled to take place this season but was pushed back due to Brady’s broadcast schedule. The ceremony took place outside the Patriots Hall of Fame, with a crowd chanting “Brady! Brady! Brady!” multiple times. Kraft praised the local sculptor who created the statue, saying he wanted it to be larger than life.
The statue symbolizes Brady’s six Super Bowl championships and features a granite base that represents the AFC East titles won during his tenure. The unveiling marks a significant honor for Brady, who reflected on his journey from being drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 draft to becoming a Hall of Fame quarterback.
