Syrian Rebels’ New Demands After Damascus Fall

A group of rebels who helped Syrian rebel commander Abu Hamza’s group take control of Damascus recently gathered in Daraa to discuss their future plans. The former trader, now known by his nom de guerre Abu Hamza, recalls how a series of swift military victories inspired his men to join the fight.

The rebels’ participation was crucial in helping Abu Hamza’s group reach the capital city without being taken over. However, they had initially planned to wait until Homs was conquered. But after Hama fell into their hands, the decision was made to take up arms and capture Damascus.

With the regime now collapsing, it is unclear what the rebels want next. Their demands remain uncertain, but one thing is clear – they are seeking international support and a sense of security in this chaotic situation.
