Tencent’s game Light of Motiram has changed its Steam store to distance itself from Sony’s Horizon series after a lawsuit was filed. The game, which was revealed in November 2024, drew comparisons to Horizon due to its art style, story beats, and gameplay elements.
The changes made include a rewritten game description that avoids direct references to “colossal machines” or “Mechanimals”, as well as new screenshots and artwork featuring more general open-world survival imagery. The release window has also been updated from “To Be Announced” to Q4 2027.
Sony claims the game is a “slavish clone” of its Horizon series, citing similarities in art style, story beats, gameplay elements, and even marketing. Tencent’s changes suggest an attempt to move away from the Horizon-like presentation, at least in its public marketing materials.
The lawsuit itself remains unchanged, with Sony’s complaint still standing, and Tencent has not made a public statement. The question is whether these changes are a genuine attempt at damage control or just a smart marketing move.
