Yankees reliever Devin Williams allowed three runs in the 10th inning of New York’s 5-3 loss to Houston, continuing his struggles. The right-hander has given up four homers in eight appearances and recorded two losses with at least one run in five straight outings since July 29.
Williams described his performance as “simple” – not making pitches. He has allowed 28 earned runs this season, surpassing his combined total from the previous three years. This season’s struggles echo those of Williams’ post-2018 Tommy John surgery period, when he worked tirelessly to contribute to his team.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone plans to continue using Williams and find “softer landing spots” for him to regain form. The loss marked New York’s sixth in seven games and dropped them to 3-8 in extra-inning games.
