Rock legend Bobby Whitlock, co-founder of Derek and the Dominos with Eric Clapton, has passed away at 77 due to cancer. The musician was a keyboard player and vocalist for the band best known for its iconic 1971 album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.” Whitlock’s wife, Coco Carmel Whitlock, remembered him as a kind soul who lived by his own words: “Life is what you make it, so take it and make it beautiful.”
Whitlock was a key contributor to the band’s success, co-writing many of its most famous songs. Longtime friend John Fusco called Whitlock a “rock ‘n’ roll legend” and a master storyteller. In his later years, Whitlock explored painting, becoming a prolific artist. His artwork has been featured in exhibits, including one at the Crockett County Museum in Texas.
The music community is mourning the loss of this talented musician, who left an indelible mark on rock history.
