London Police Crack Down on Anti-Israel Protesters Amid New Ban

Police in London arrested over 360 people for violating a new ban on public support for the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action. The U.K. Parliament passed the law after the group broke into a Royal Air Force base and vandalized aircraft, labeling it akin to supporting terrorism. Anti-Israel protesters argue the ban infringes on freedom of speech. The protest aimed to show that the new law is difficult to enforce.

The protest, organized by Defend Our Juries, was held in Parliament Square, where over 500 people gathered, displaying signs expressing support for Palestine Action and opposing genocide. Police intervened, citing the ban as grounds for arrest. However, many arrested were released with street bail, leaving critics questioning the law’s credibility.

This comes on the heels of Israel’s security cabinet approving a plan to occupy Gaza City, escalating its war against Hamas. The Security Cabinet has adopted five principles for concluding the war, including disarmament and demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to remove Hamas from Gaza to ensure Israeli security.

The arrests demonstrate the challenges in enforcing the new ban, with many protesters released without charges. Critics argue that the law undermines freedom of speech, while supporters see it as a necessary measure to combat terrorism.
