The Denver Broncos started their preseason campaign on a high note, beating the San Francisco 49ers 30-9 behind quarterback Jarrett Stidham’s two touchdown passes. Stidham’s performance came after a lackluster showing from Bo Nix and the Broncos’ starters.
Coach Sean Payton acknowledged that his team struggled in the game, calling their performance “average to below average.” However, he praised Stidham for making the most of his opportunity, connecting on two touchdown passes in the first half.
The 49ers also had a disappointing showing, with quarterback Brock Purdy’s second-team offense struggling to move the ball. Coach Kyle Shanahan expressed frustration with his team’s performance, citing four turnovers and too many mistakes.
Despite the losses, both teams will use the preseason games as an opportunity to fine-tune their rosters before the regular season begins. The Broncos will host Arizona next Saturday, while the 49ers will face Las Vegas after a joint practice.
