OpenAI Ups ChatGPT Plus Rate Limits Amid GPT-5 Backlash

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has confirmed that subscribers of the premium ChatGPT Plus service will receive increased rate limits for using the new GPT-5 AI model, following widespread user backlash. The move aims to address concerns over the limitations of the GPT-5 Thinking model, which had a 200 messages per week rate limit.

Altman announced the change on Twitter and stated that all model-class limits will be higher than they were before the launch of GPT-5. He also mentioned that a new user interface (UI) change is coming to display which model is working for each prompt.

The decision comes after the removal of popular AI model GPT-4o, and the initial backlash over the limitations of GPT-5. Altman has since reverted the removal of GPT-4o.

While OpenAI aims to address some concerns, the future of ChatGPT upgrades may be marked by incremental improvements rather than major innovations. As users have grown accustomed to AI chatbots, the novelty factor has worn off, and the focus will likely shift towards tweaks and updates that maintain user satisfaction rather than exceeding expectations.
