Arizona Reports First Human Avian Flu Cases, California Investigates Possible Outbreak

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has reported two cases of human avian flu, both linked to commercial farms in Pinal County. The patients, who received treatment and have since recovered, had mild symptoms. ADHS confirmed the cases after receiving confirmation from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Arizona’s avian flu outbreak is part of a growing trend nationwide. The state has reported two recent outbreaks: one at a layer farm with over 790,000 birds in Pinal County, and another in a backyard flock in Maricopa County with 490 birds.

Meanwhile, health officials in California are investigating a possible avian flu case involving a child in Marin County. If confirmed, it would be the state’s second unexplained avian flu infection in a child. The CDC is assisting California in confirming the findings and determining how the child was exposed to the virus.
