Amazon has successfully launched its fourth batch of Kuiper internet satellites, bringing the total number of satellites in orbit to 102. The Falcon 9 rocket carrying 24 new satellites reached low-earth orbit on Monday, following three previous launch attempts that were interrupted by weather issues.
The move is part of Amazon’s efforts to meet a regulatory requirement set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which demands that about half of its Kuiper satellites be in space by July 2026. With a total of 1,600 required satellites, Amazon aims to complete its constellation by the end of the year.
Amazon has turned to SpaceX for help building out its Kuiper satellite constellation, using the Starlink network as a reference point. The company plans to use up to 83 launches, including three rides with SpaceX, and has already secured deals with governments to provide commercial internet services later this year.
The FCC’s deadline is set for July 2029, when the full 3,236-satellite constellation will be launched. With its latest launch, Amazon takes a step closer to achieving its goal of providing high-speed internet connectivity globally.
