6 Planets Align in Rare Parade on August 17-20

Six of Earth’s neighboring planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune — will briefly appear in the sky on the same night, starting Sunday (Aug. 17). This rare “planetary parade” will be visible for almost a week, with the celestial gathering appearing in the eastern sky about an hour before sunrise.

Mercury will join the fray, bringing the planet count from five to six, and can be seen under clear skies. However, Uranus and Neptune are too dim and distant to be seen without a telescope. The view is expected to be enhanced by the presence of a waning crescent moon, which will rise above Jupiter and Venus.

The planetary parade will last until around Aug. 21, when Mercury begins to fall back into the sun’s glare. There will be two six-planet parades in 2026: one after sunset in February and another before sunrise in August.
