A tech creator recently spent multiple days streaming themselves unfolding a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 an unprecedented 200,000 times. The test aimed to assess the device’s durability and longevity, with surprising results.
During the test, the creator reported several anomalies, including a forced reboot between 6,000 and 10,000 folds, and a failure of all speakers at 175,000 folds. However, these issues did not recur after the initial occurrence.
The most striking issue was the appearance of an unknown black liquid from the hinge, which persisted throughout the test but did not reappear. The device’s hinge also showed significant improvement in smoothness.
To put this into perspective, if a user were to fold their Fold 7 40 times a day, it would take around 5,000 days or approximately 14 years to reach 200,000 folds. This suggests that the likelihood of encountering these problems is low, especially considering that users will likely only unfold the device occasionally.
The test highlights the importance of understanding the potential wear and tear on foldable devices. While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7’s price may be a barrier for some, its unique features and form factor make it an attractive option for those willing to invest in this technology.
