Israel Arrests 27-Year-Old Suspect Over Graffiti at Western Wall

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by Israeli police for allegedly spraying graffiti at the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, sparking outrage among Jewish leaders. The incident occurred near the Mughrabi Gate, one of the holiest sites in Judaism.

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation condemned the act, calling it “a grave desecration” that harms the sanctity of the site. Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, also denounced the graffiti, stating that a holy place should not be used for expressing protests.

Israel police say the suspect is a Jerusalem resident and will face charges in court on Monday. The case highlights tensions between Jewish and Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967. The incident also mirrors similar graffiti found at another synagogue in central Jerusalem.
